Wave Speed & Wavelength Calculator – Frequency & Period Tool

Calculate wave speed, wavelength, or frequency using the wave equation v = f·λ.

Enter at least two values, then click a calculation button.

The wave equation v = f·λ relates the three fundamental properties of any wave: speed (v), frequency (f), and wavelength (λ). Frequency is the number of complete wave cycles passing a point per second, measured in Hertz (Hz). Wavelength is the distance between two consecutive identical points on a wave (e.g., crest to crest). Wave speed is the distance the wave travels per unit time. The period (T) is the time for one complete wave cycle, related to frequency by T = 1/f. These relationships apply to all types of waves: sound waves, light waves, electromagnetic waves, and water waves. This calculator allows you to compute any missing parameter when at least two are known. Understanding wave properties is essential in physics, acoustics, optics, telecommunications, and engineering applications.

  1. Enter at least two values among frequency (f), wavelength (λ), speed (v), or period (T).
  2. Click Calculate All to verify all relationships.
  3. Use specific buttons: Find Speed, Find Wavelength, or Find Frequency.
  4. The result shows the calculated value and the formula used.
  5. Period is automatically derived when frequency is known.
  6. Click Reset to restore default example values.
